SEO Scams, how do you tell the real SEO companies from the scammers?
Please note, I hate spam too! I would never share, give or sell your details to anyone!
SEO - Search Engine Optimisation, is the practise of optimising websites to attract better quality & quantity of free organic search engine traffic.
Because of the fact that SEO can bring FREE, TARGETED search engine traffic to your website, and can be a source of new customers & sales for years to come - and really can increase your business in a big way, there ARE individuals & companies out there, who take advantage of this - and take advantage of the fact that most people know very little about it, and can easily be duped into parting with their precious marketing budget!
I have clients who have previously worked with such organisations, some are very clever & can really talk the talk - some are maybe not so clued up but just see it as a numbers game, phone enough people & they'll speak to enough people who know less than they do about it, and they'll manage to swindle a few people out of some cash.
So - be very careful, especially if you receive a sales call about SEO or any kind of web marketing services, that you are not being scammed, even if the person on the other end of the phone really seems to know what they're saying.
Even if you don't receive a phone call, even if you find the firm by searching the web - just because their own website is optimised well doesn't always mean they plan on doing the same with yours - I have seen firms out there who have put a lot of work into their own site in order to bring in the clients, but who do little or no work for their paying clients!
Please understand that I am not having a dig at the competition - I have every respect for other true SEO consultants - the people I am referring to are not SEO consultants at all, but are sales companies who set themselves up to look like SEO consultants, in order gain money by deceiving people by one way or another, into thinking they're getting something which they are not.
You see, search engine optimisation is not easy, it's not fast, it's not fast money, it's actually hard work - and if an SEO consultant wants to build a good career & he or she has to put in a lot of effort in order to gain results for clients.
BUT - because SEO can be quite complex if you're not accustomed to it (which most people aren't) it's quite difficult for anyone to know what has been done to their website - if anything - therefore someone could say they were working on your site, tell you it may take time to see results, and by the time you realise that actually nothing has been done at all - you can't get hold of them!
This is just one of the SEO scams that has been doing the rounds for a few years, there are quite a few instances of firms like this who have operated under various different names, but this isn't the only Scam - there are other much more subtle SEO scams which you also need to beware of.
