How to turn your website into a 24/7 marketing machine
Is your website currently you're most effective marketing tool?
Does it bring in new leads & sales, on a daily basis, and does it help you to convert these sales into leads - even if you're not around?
If not - continue reading, I'm going to show you how to set something up on your website which does this for you:
Mailing list building & marketing
Is your website working to convert visitors into mailing list signups - and do you have an automated system to market your services to your mailing list members?
If you're like most businesses, the answer to this question will be no -as most businesses are missing out on this powerful marketing method, and if this is the case, you're missing out on a fantastic opportunity.
Dont worry - I'm not trying to sell you something, I'm literally going to show you right now how to set this up, ready?
Step by step instructions for setting up mailing list building & marketing on your website
First of all I'll give you a quick overview of what I'm suggesting you should set up & why.
- Do you know what the sales conversion rate is on your website?
- Do you know what your conversion is from visit to repeat visit?
The chances are both these conversion rates are going to be very small, conversion rate from visit to sale is likely to be something in the range of 0.1% - 1% , and conversion from visit to repeat visit if you don't have a mailing list, is likely to be very small too.
This means that even with good traffic levels your website is unlikely to make a huge difference to your business.
Most small business owners see their website as something they need to have, but most do not rely on their website as their number one business development tool.
Just setting up a mailing list can change this, so that your website develops into your main method of gaining new customers and sales - if it's done correctly.
OK, so how does it work?
We setup a list on our website, and we call it something - something which gives an incentive for our potential customers to signup to this list. You can call it a newsletter, a "special offers mailing list" it really doesn't matter what you call it, as long as it gives your visitors the incentive to enter their name & email address, and to allow you to send them emails.
For example, here on my website, on the left hand side of the page you'll see a signup form for my web marketing tips newsletter. The incentive that I am giving potential clients in order to join, is web marketing tips that I'm sending out via email.
You could do the same, or you could give a free report, or you could offer special offers & discounts - as long as you're giving a good incentive that makes people want to join, that's all that matters.
I personally believe that "tips" or "email lessons" or newsletter type incentives are better as they give you the opportunity to regulary communicate with your members.
So this is how you build the list, people come to your website, and instead of just going off without doing anything (as probably 99% or more people usually do when they visit your site) a percentage of visitors will sign up to your list.
Then - what you do, is set up a series of autoresponders, which deliver the information that you're offering as the incentive to sign up - and which deliver marketing information.
Step 1 - choose a provider
You can't just email people via your normal email software - we have to use specialist email list hosting, this ensures that everything we can do meets with anti spam regulations, and that most of the emails reach their recipient, and handles all of the automation & the form generation.
The two main providers, are Aweber and Auto Pilot Riches
Aweber is the provider I would recommend solely for list building and marketing, as they're slightly cheaper & have far better features when it comes to creating signup forms & creating autoresponder messages.
Auto Pilot Riches isn't quite as easy to setup & use, but if you're going to be selling digitally downloaded products, and if you want to set up an affiliate program - then Auto Pilot Riches can handle all of this for you as well as the list marketing.
First of all - pick a provider, just have a look at Aweber & Auto Pilot Riches, and decide which one you think works best for you. Personally I would go for Aweber unless you're going to be selling digitally downloaded products & you want to set up an affiliate program, in which case autopilot riches is probably the way forward.
They both offer test drives, so just sign up for the free trial to begin with.
Step 2 - Create your list
Log into the provider you choose, and go through their step by step guide to creating and configuring a list. (you can set up a number of lists, but for now you just need one).
Decide what to call your list, what the incentive for joining will be, and then create the list.
Set up the opt-in confirmation message (this is the email which goes out to the new signup to confirm they wish to join, to make sure they cannot accuse you of sending them spam mail).
Set up message one, that will be sent to the new member as soon as they have confirmed their membership, this would normally be a short welcome email - which of course will contain your web address at the bottom of the email.
Step 3 - Create your messages
The messages you create will depend on the incentives you're offering to join, for instance if you've offered "tips" emails as I have, then you'll want to set up a series of emails containing tips. If you've offered a "free report" then the first message will contain the download link, and further messages will be emails reminding the visitor of what you do & why they should use your services or buy your product - but be as subtle as you can, if you start bombarding new members with hard sell emails, they'll just remove themselves from the list straight away.
I would recommend trying to send one email per day to start with if you can, as long as the incentive that you used warrants that, such as a "free tips" newsletter. This is why I think these kinds of incentives are the best, as they give you a valid reason to send regular emails - and enable you to "strike while the iron is hot" and send them a number of reminders about your business within a short space of time.
You'll probably not be able to keep up one email per day for long, so you could have one per day to begin with and on day 7 for instance, you could send an email which lets them know that they'll now receive the emails slightly less regularly now that they've received the 7 main tips / lessons / whatever you have decided to call your list - and then just type a new one whenever you can and add it to the autoresponder series.
What you'll find, is that the more often you communicate with the list - the more responsive it will be, and the less "removes" you will have. The less you communicate, the more likely it is that people will forget having signed up, and will remove themselves when you email them, or will just delete without reading.
Step 3 - Create your form(s)
With Auto Pilot Riches you only have the option of setting up basic web forms, similar to the one I use on my website.
With Aweber you can set up a standard form such as this, and / or you can use a number of other options such as fade in popup forms which gradually appear, pop unders, slide in forms, and "exit pop ups" which only appear when someone leaves the page.
Which form(s) you use is entirely up to you, I test a number of forms, as you'll see I have a pop-under which opens inside the main page when you get to my home page, and I also have standard opt in forms on every page of my website.
With Aweber you can actually run split tests between forms to find out which form is bringing the best results.
Step 3 - Put the form(s)on your site
Just follow the instructions with the provider you choose, to put the form on your website - or email the form code to your web designer.
Build your list & continue to communicate to your list members
That's all their is to it, test & tweak with forms to get the best conversion rates, and then constantly write new messages to ad to your autoresponders, so that you continue to communicate with members, and to covert potential customers into customers, and new clients into repeat customers.
Then all you need to do to increase the size of your list is increase your targeted traffic.
want me to do it for you?
If you're busy - and really don't want to do this yourself - I can do it for you for a relatively small charge.
The cost depends on whether you want me to write the autoresponder messages, and how many need writing - so just email me, or phone me on 01625 876103, to let me know what is required, and I'll give you a quotation.
